Sítio Vila Maria belonged to the parents of José Pola, Pedro Pola and Lídia Nespoli, who in turn inherited the farm from his grandfather, an Italian immigrant. Since very Young, José Pola followed his father in all the coffee plantation work phases and during the last five years, after the property was divided among his him and his brothers, he and his wife, Ana Marilene and their four children manage the coffee, corn, black bean, manioc and yam plantations.

Located in a large valley, Sítio Vila Maria is at an altitude that varies between 700 and 1000 meters. Plantations divide space with the forest and rocky formations, abundant in the region. The whole Póla family is involved in coffee planting and processing, and are helped by the region's 50/50 tenant farmers.

Coffee processing system

All the coffee produced in Sítio Vila Maria is processed by the pulped natural cherry coffee wet method. Coffee is picked manually on cloth and screens, to separate the cherry beans. After the coffee is harvested, it is washed and pulped on the same day. Subsequently, it is transported to the concrete terraces to dry. Coffee in pergamino is stored in wooden bins.

Concern with quality

The owners of Sítio Vila Maria are aware of the great potential of coffees produced in the Espírito Santo Mountains. Hence, they invest in a production that is mostly handled manually, working to reach quality levels comparable to the best coffees produced in the world.

"When I first took part in the Cafés do Brasil Contest, I did not imagine that I would be among the finalists. This was a great encouragement to produce even better coffees and to make new investments." José Evêncio Pola.
