Acquired in 1984 by Mr. Manoel Sebastião de Lima, the property has three water sources and over 20% of its area in native forests. It borders with the Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro [Serra do Brigadeiro State Park]. The whole farm is protected and maintained for the development of the wild native fauna and flora.
The property is located at an altitude that varies between 850m and 1000m, which provides an excellent environment for quality coffee plantations. The predominating soil is humid dark-red latosol, with good fertility. The annual average temperature is 15ºC and annual average rainfall reaches 1500mm.
Coffee processing system
After the coffee is picked, the beans are washed and transferred to the cherry pulper. The water used during this phase is totally recycled with the use of settling tanks. In the sequence, the beans are transferred to the cemented terrace, where they remain just for the time required to wipe dry the beans.
Subsequently, the beans are taken to the suspended terrace, where the drying phase is completed. After drying, the coffee is maintained separated in a warehouse. Harvesting is manual, contributing to generate jobs.
Concern with quality
The owner is a member of the Associação dos Produtores de Cafés Especiais de Araponga (above 1,000 meters high), which provides courses and lectures on how to improve coffee quality, through adequate handling practices and infrastructure improvements.
