In 1980 Eulino José de Novais planted 4,000 coffee seedlings, two plants per hole, on the land at Fazenda Santa Bárbara. Turning a profit, he proceeded to increase his stand to a total of 20,000 coffee plants. Thanks to this expansion, he has been able to generate enough work and income to support his entire family.
The grower regards coffee as a very reliable asset, comparing it to a blank check because of its commercial value. He now pulps the coffee cherries to improve the quality of his product.
Coffee processing system
Everything begins with proper preparation of the land, starting with annual analysis of the soil and cultivating the ground to receive the seedlings. Harvesting is selective and the cherries are pulped daily. The pulped coffee is immediately taken to the patio for drying, where it is raked several times a day.
After drying, the lots are numbered and stored separately in special silos, ready for future sale.
Commitment to quality
Eulino José Novais is committed to investing in his property because he realizes it is the source of his family’s sustenance. With quality as his goal, he knows he will always have an outstanding product to offer. Constantly on the lookout for new technological developments, he takes advantage of courses, lectures, travel opportunities, and other events promoted by the Piatã Coffee Growers Association (ASCAMP), to which he belongs. The Association is always looking for knowledge on the subject to share with its members, constantly encouraging them to produce high-quality coffee.
